BAIT’s first project of the new year takes a premium approach to one of the most iconic basketball sneakers of the early 2000’s: the AND1 Tai Chi. The special collaboration – the first ever on the classic silhouette – is entitled the BAIT x AND1 Tai Chi “Blue Apple” and will launch in limited quantities on Saturday, January 17, 2015.
The shoe will be available in limited quantities at all four BAIT stores and online at BAITme.com on a first-come, first serve basis. Retail is $110 USD. Continue reading for more images and details.
The NBA’s Slam Dunk Contest serves as an integral part of the Tai Chi’s history. The sneaker was famously seen on the feet of Vince Carter in the 2000 contest as he put on one of the most memorable performances of all time. The “Blue Apple” is designed to celebrate the 2015 edition of the contest, which is set to take place on Valentine’s Day.
In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, BAIT’s signature Blue Apple colorway was chosen for the shoe. The color scheme was originally conceived as a representation of BAIT in colors (Blue, Apple, Ivory, and Tan) and used on one of our first designs, the Saucony Shadow 6000 “Blue Apple.” For the Tai Chi, the bright red apple covers perforated suede used for the lateral view of the shoe. Light blue covers the smooth suede that wraps around from the medial side over the toe. A simple ivory midsole sits between the vibrant upper and the more subdued tan bottom.
