adidas pays homage to its German heritage with the “Fall of the Wall” Pack. The 25th anniversary of the brand’s classic ZX 8000 runner happens to coincide with the silver anniversary of an important moment in German history: the fall of the Berlin Wall. A trio of limited-edition premium ZX 8000 designs celebrates both milestones in one swoop, inspired by the most iconic gateways to West Germany and the Allies while the wall stood: checkpoints Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie. All three are made in Germany and each box features images of the respective inspiration. Continue reading for info on each shoe and more images!
The ZX 8000 “Alpha” is inspired by the corrugated iron and backed up traffic of the largest and most important border crossing while Germany was divided. Dark anthracite nubuck and ripstop nylon represent the iron, while reflective 3M details call out the reflective stickers that could often be seen on the backs of vehicles waiting in line.
The ZX 8000 “Bravo” references the red, yellow, blue, and white colors of the autobahn border crossing between West Berlin and the German Democratic Republic. Vintage nubuck and a bleach effect reflect the colors of the building becoming washed out over time.
The ZX 8000 “Charlie” represents the Berlin Wall crossing point, which became a famous symbol of the Cold War and the separation between East and West. The simple off-white and black colors of the building are translated onto the sneaker in two differently textured leathers.
