Onitsuka Tiger x BAIT by Akomplice – Colorado Eighty-Five “6,200FT”
To ring in our first anniversary, BAIT is dropping a special mockup of the classic Onitsuka Tiger Colorado Eighty-Five silhouette designed by Colorado natives, Akomplice Clothing. The collaboration will be releasing on October 19, 2013, a year after we first opened the doors to our flagship store in Diamond Bar, California. Hit the jump for full details about the shoe, a gallery of images, and release info.
BAIT has long been a staunch supporter of Onitsuka Tiger and the Colorado Eighty-Five’s timeless design. When we were afforded the opportunity to collaborate on the model, we found it fitting to reach out to Akomplice, who hails from Colorado. Brothers, brand architects, and Colorado natives Mike and Patrick Liberty were more than willing to infuse their Rocky Mountain roots into the Onitsuka Tiger classic that bears their state’s name.
The collaborative design is ripe with details that relate to Akomplice’s origins, beginning with the name “6,200FT” – the exact elevation of Mike and Patrick’s hometown of Carbondale, Colorado. The sneaker also sports braided hiking laces and reinforced ripstop panels, which are always apropos when drawing inspiration from the Rocky Mountains. The nods to the Colorado continue with the color scheme of red, white, blue, and yellow, which match the state flag and are representative of its environmental features. Blue symbolizes the clear skies; gold acknowledges the abundant sunshine; red represents the soil; and white recalls the snow on the mountains. The visual cues to the ski slopes of the region aren’t limited to just the surface – a ski map is emblazoned on the insole and the back of the hangtag, which doubles as a lift ticket.
Akomplice’s foray into sneaker design is also BAIT’s most limited release to date, numbering just 504 pairs. Each pair is individually numbered on the lift ticket hangtag. The limited-edition shoe will release in-store and online to coincide with BAIT’s one year anniversary party on Saturday, October 19. Customers can pick up reservation tickets from the flagship store in Diamond Bar, CA between October 14-17, guaranteeing a pair for purchase on release date.
The Colorado Eighty-Five “6,200FT” will retail for $109.99. Thank you for your support over the past year! Happy hunting.
